Competitions Wow what a week for competitions for the 6th. Wednesday 3rd saw the Galaxy Team Quiz at St. Johns URC. We were current holders of the Trophy from last year and we went in with the intention of keeping it. The dream Team consisted of, Peter Etheridge, Ben Kings, Matty Crowe and Daniel Gooding. There were 5 teams in total, 1 from Colchester, 2 from 3rd Ipswich and 1 from 1st Ipswich. Our boys were quietly confident and had their strategy of when to play their Joker all worked out. They felt their strongest subject would be the Bible Round. There was a potential of doubling their points on that round from 8 to 16. Well if you want to find out more of what happened then you'll have to read the next issue of 6thNews which will be out on 23rd March.
The other competition we entered this week was the Eastern District 5 a side football. We had a team in the U14 who were, Adam Stant, Barry Calver, Russell Haddow, Daniel Brown and Matty Crowe. They played extremely well and won Pool A to get themselves into the final. The final itself was very tense and went to full time without either side scoring. It was then decided on a Golden Goal and you'll have to read 6thNews to find out the rest.
Our over 16 team consisted of Tom Haddow, Jonathan Calver, Ali Kings, Ben Kings and Phil Brown. I was not there myself and at the time of writing this have yet to receive a full report on the tournament.

All I can say is well done to all who took part in the competitions we have taken part in. You have done the 6th proud in the way you represented us. All exactly what BB is about.

Cap'n Slog goes Back to his past Last Friday I went to the Regent in Ipswich and stepped back to when I was younger. I went to see the Australian Pink Floyd Show. Now I know it is not the same as seeing the real Pink Floyd, but if you close your eyes (can't think why you would want to with their light show) it IS Pink Floyd playing. All credit to them as they were note perfect and sound perfect in my opinion. A really good show and a great nights entertainment. Took me right back to the 70's and my misspent youth.
This summer it is Elton John at Portman Road, now did I ever tell you I knew his cousin...........

Ebaying Just discovered the wonderful delights of Ebay. Matty has sold a few items to raise cash towards his new mobile phone. I have bought some items including a model bus that was produced in the 1980's for the BB Water Aid appeal. I tend to collect small model vehicles usually Lledo days gone by. However I am now collecting different types of BT vehicles. I have some in the old GPO green, British Telecom Yellow, BT Grey and also White with the Piper logo.
If anyone has any such vehicles then please let me know and I'll make an offer.

See you on Ebay where my username is capnslog

Weekends and Camps Ok so it's been a while since I last 'blogged'. Well a lot has been happening and some things are now falling into place. We have had a good response for our weekend camp so we can now get things moving on that front. I have also given out details of the Eastern District event 'Challenge4U' and await response from that. I have also secured a venue for our annual camp and hopefully will be passing out details on that soon. This will be 31st July to 7th August and again this year will be joint with 12th and 14th.
Nice to see recognition for the cyclecross last year at last. Could never work out why having come 1st and 3rd we hadn't been declared overall winners.
Well it seems from the BB mailing list that the subject of admitting girls into the BB has raised its head again. Could be a motion put before Council this year. What do the boys think of the idea? Good? Bad? Indifferent? Perhaps rather than a bunch of well meaning adults making the decision it should be put to the boys what they want. After all it is the Boys' Brigade which means the Brigade belonging to the Boys. Let me have your thougts and ideas on the subject.
See you all soon.

Hello 2004 We are now into 2004 and we have a lot of things planned for this year. Firstly is the Weekend Camp to celebrate 80 years of uniformed organisations at Alan Road. Then there is the Eastern District Danbury weekend and last but not least our own Camp in the summer. Remember to keep an eye out for any updates and information on these events and sign up for them as soon as you can.
We will be back to normal on the 6th Jan and have a new programme of events planned up to the end of April.

Whilst we still have Christmas fresh in our minds here is a good story about Christmas as posted on the BB Mailing list:

Who started Christmas?
=======================

A woman was out Christmas shopping with her two children.
After many hours of looking at row after row of toys and everything else imaginable; and after hours of hearing both her children ask for everything they saw on those many shelves, she finally made it to the elevator with her two kids.

She was feeling what so many of us feel during the holiday season time of the year: overwhelming pressure to go to every party, every housewarming, taste all the holiday food and treats, getting that perfect gift for every single person on our shopping list, making sure we don't forget anyone on our card list, and the pressure of making sure we respond to everyone who sent us a card.

Finally the elevator doors opened and there was already a crowd in the car. She pushed her way into the car and dragged her two kids in with her and all the bags of stuff. When the doors closed she couldn't take it anymore and stated,

"Whoever started this whole Christmas thing should be found, strung up and shot."

From the back of the car everyone heard a quiet calm voice
respond, "Don't worry, we already crucified him."

For the rest of the trip down the elevator; it was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop.

Don't forget this year to keep the One who started this whole Christmas thing in your every thought, deed, purchase, and word.

If we all did it, just think of how different this whole world would be.

Christmas over and a New Year looming Why is there such an early build up to Christmas and then it is over in a flash. Not sure how any of you spent your Christmas Day, but I was peeling 5Kg of spuds in the morning. This was our bit to help with the Christmas meal at Woodbridge Church. Rest of the day was a typical Christmas Day with presents food and family company. Hope you all got what you wished for and I hope we all start 2004 with peace in our hearts.
Happy New Year to you all.
