Over the years of
camp, various things have happened that are constantly talked and laughed about, especially at staff meetings. What is written below is a list of the best ten, but it was hard to decide what to leave out. Hopefully this
will spark further discussion and reminiscing, and enthusiasm for going to camp this year. The list was not voted for, I just decided on what was funniest, but I'm sure you'll enjoy reading it....
1) CABBAGE
Exactly
why Mr. Bernard Broughton was presented with a cabbage at Sandown IOW in 1993 is lost in the mists of time. However, it was very funny indeed and the tradition continues.
2) UNDER OR OVER?
Hilariously chaotic
volleyball tournament at Dulverton in 1991. The umpire, Mr. Bernard Broughton, was never sure if the ball was under or over the net. Later in the game everyone put tea towels on their heads, which was funny at the time
too!
3) RABBIT FOOTBALL
It's like football but with a rabbit. This tasteless but funny game was played at Dulverton but failed to establish itself as a regular inter tent contest.
4) BLUE MOON
Who is this shining at everyone in Broadstairs in 1998? [See
]5) X
Paranormal activity, Neil Fox denies knowledge. Ever since visiting Portland in 1996, strange occurrences have surrounded Neil Fox (Mulder). These include the
unexplainable appearances of X's and what appear to be communications from extra terrestrials.
6) KIT DIVING
Regular post inspection activity involving diving along rows of previously neatly folded kit. As a safety
note, this sport is best done after removing cutlery.
7) CABLE STREA-CAR
The inter tent cricket in 1997 at Wroxham was interrupted by a foolish pitch invader. He was swiftly arrested by the 'too-much-fun police'.
8) THE ROVING BIN OF SOMERSET
A large red dustbin, native to these parts, was known to roam into comical places after the hours of darkness. Copied but never bettered.
9) DE-DE-DE DA-DA-DA-DA DE-DE, DE-DE-DE DA-DA-DA-DA DE-DE
These opening notes of the Nirvana song, 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' erupted from the equipment tent last year at Broadstairs, very late one night. This highly
amused the furthest tent away who put the cassette player in there, not so much the adjacent tent, but it made me laugh so it's in the list.
10) THERE'S A HOLE IN THIS TENT
At Chelwood Gate in 1990 there was a small
hole in the tent of Christopher Broughton........so he thought he'd make it bigger by sticking his head through it.
Others that almost made the list include..Four Weddings and an Orderly Officers Day, I never did get
that hand brake fixed, D****** is unconcious....So!, Lightning Crotch and Oops! I've broken the coach! Ask me about these if you wish.
